Which Variants Include Messages

The Messages app is only available on Talk & Text variants:

  • Wonder Phone — Talk, Text & Features (L'Maaseh approved)
  • Wonder Star — Talk & Text (VAAD Hakehilos approved)

If your phone is a Talk & Features or Talk Only variant, Messages is not included and cannot be added.

Opening Messages

Tap the Messages icon on the home screen, or navigate to it with the D-pad and press the center button.

Sending a Text

  1. Open Messages and select New Message (or the compose option).
  2. Enter the recipient's phone number or choose a contact.
  3. Type your message using the on-screen keyboard or physical keypad. A Yiddish keyboard is available.
  4. Press the send button to send.

You can also use speech-to-text to dictate your message — it automatically adds commas, periods, and question marks.

Sending Picture Messages (MMS)

You can attach pictures to a message. You can send up to 10 pictures in a single message. Swipe between pictures seamlessly within a conversation.

Known issue: A bug currently causes some picture messages to fail to send. If this happens, try editing the picture in the Photos app first, then re-attach and send. A fix is targeted for the next update.

Group Messages

Messages supports group conversations. You can add people to existing groups and see who sent each message in group previews, along with the total number of participants.

Known issue: There is a known bug affecting group messages. A fix is in progress.

Receiving Messages

Incoming messages appear as notifications. If a message arrives while you are already in a conversation, an indicator will appear on screen alerting you to it. Swipe down from the top of the screen (or long-press the Home key) to view notifications.

Messages Not Loading / Unread Alert Won't Clear

If the Messages app shows an unread indicator but won't load, or conversations aren't appearing:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > Messages > Storage & cache > Clear storage > OK.
  2. Re-open the Messages app and leave it open until all conversations finish loading — this may take a few minutes.
  3. Turning on Airplane mode while the app loads can also help.

Your messages are not deleted when you clear storage.

Unpinning a Conversation

There isn't a direct "unpin" option in the Messages app, but you can unpin a conversation with this workaround:

  1. Open the pinned conversation.
  2. Type any character in the text input field, then press back so the message is saved as a draft.
  3. Go back into the conversation and delete the draft.

The conversation will no longer be pinned.

Searching Messages

You can search through conversations and individual messages using the search feature built into the Messages app.

Doubled Messages

Some users are seeing messages appear duplicated. This is a known bug that developers are actively working to fix.
