The Wonder Phone includes a Yiddish keyboard on every variant — the L'Maaseh-approved Wonder Phone and the VAAD Hakehilos-approved Wonder Star alike. No setup is required; it comes pre-installed.

Where the Keyboard Is Available

The Yiddish keyboard is accessible anywhere you can type on the phone — including the Notes app, Messages (on Talk & Text variants), Contacts, and Calendar. It is built into the on-screen keyboard and does not need to be downloaded or activated separately.

Switching to the Yiddish Keyboard

When the on-screen keyboard is open, look for a language or keyboard switcher key — typically a globe or language icon on the keyboard itself. Tap it to cycle between your available input languages, including Yiddish. Tap it again to switch back to English.

More Yiddish Support (Beta)

In beta now (v1.6.0.022): Yiddish support is expanding beyond typing. Beta testers get Yiddish speech-to-text dictation (dictate in Yiddish instead of typing) and Yiddish search in the Phone app (find calls and contacts by typing Yiddish or initials). These features are rolling out to beta testers now and will reach all users in the next stable release — see Joining the Wonder Phone Beta Program.

Using Gboard as an Alternative

If you prefer a different keyboard experience, the Add-ons feature (available since update v1.5.8) lets you choose third-party keyboard options, including Gboard. To enable Gboard after downloading it:

  1. Go to Settings > Add-on and download Gboard.
  2. Then go to Settings > System > Language & input > Onscreen Keyboard > Manage on-screen keyboards and turn on Gboard.

Once enabled, you can switch between the built-in keyboard and Gboard using the keyboard switcher.

Typing Accuracy

Wonder is actively working on keyboard improvements. If you notice accuracy issues, these are expected to improve in future updates.

Variant Notes

The Yiddish keyboard is included on all four Wonder Phone variants:

  • Wonder Phone — Talk, Text & Features (L'Maaseh approved)
  • Wonder Phone — Talk & Features (L'Maaseh approved)
  • Wonder Star — Talk & Text (VAAD Hakehilos approved)
  • Wonder Star — Talk Only (VAAD Hakehilos approved)

There are no variant-specific differences for the Yiddish keyboard.
