The Call app is the core of the Wonder Phone experience and comes pre-installed on every variant — the L'Maaseh-approved Wonder Phone and the VAAD Hakehilos-approved Wonder Star alike.

Making a Call

To place a call, open the Call app from the home screen. From there you can:

  • Dial a number directly using the keypad.
  • Search your contacts — the Phone app search opens your recent call history, and you can type a name or number to find a contact.
  • Call a favorite — contacts can be marked as favorites for quicker access.
  • Use Speed Dial — Speed Dial supports up to 999 contacts. Assign numbers in the Call app settings.

Once you have the number or contact on screen, press the call button to connect.

Receiving a Call

When someone calls you, the screen displays the caller's name (if they are in your contacts) or their number. Use the on-screen answer button or the designated hardware key to pick up, and the end-call button or power button to hang up.

Note on the power button: If pressing the power button does not end a call, go to the dropdown menu, swipe left, and press Invert Colors for two seconds. Make sure the "Power button ends call" setting is turned on.

During a Call

  • Use the volume buttons on the side of the phone to adjust call volume.
  • If the other party places you on hold, the active call screen will indicate this.
  • If you receive a second incoming call, the two-call screen lets you manage both.

Call History

The Wonder Phone keeps up to 10,000 recent call entries — far more than most phones. You can:

  • View all calls by time (not grouped).
  • View missed calls separately in the Call app.
  • Rejected calls appear clearly in the missed calls section.

New in Beta (v1.6.0.022)

The Call app gets a faster, smarter experience for beta testers:

  • Call History now has two new tabs — Dialed and Received — and you can delete a single entry from your history.
  • Talking Caller ID announces incoming callers out loud (optional — enable it in the Call app settings).
  • Faster search throughout calls and contacts; dialing search results now show every number from every contact, and search supports Yiddish typing and initials.
  • A small vibration signals when the other party puts you on hold.
  • Call recordings save to the SD card when one is inserted.

These features are rolling out to beta testers now and will reach all users in the next stable release — see Joining the Wonder Phone Beta Program.

LED Indicator

An LED indicator lights up for incoming calls, so you can see a call coming in even when the phone is face-down or the flip is closed.

Variant Notes

All four Wonder Phone variants support phone calls. The Wonder Star (VAAD Hakehilos-approved) and the L'Maaseh-approved Wonder Phone handle calls identically — the difference between variants is in other features (such as texting or Waze), not calling.

Troubleshooting Poor Call Quality or App Glitches

If the Call app is glitching — missed connections, garbled audio, or unexpected behavior — clearing the app's stored data often resolves it:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > Phone > Storage & cache.
  2. Tap Clear storage, then tap OK.
  3. Restart the phone.

Heads up: clearing the Phone app's storage erases any saved Speed Dial assignments. You'll need to set them up again. If you have many speed dials, note them down before clearing storage. See Speed Dial for the setup steps.

If the issue is more about signal or service rather than the app itself, it's usually carrier-related — see the Carrier Compatibility article.
